Christine James

Created to Create

"We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!  Ephesians 2:10 (The Passion Translation)

Christine James is particularly interested in helping musicians develop tools that will prepare them for musical futures in today's world (composition, improvisation, studio recording, leading worship, playing or singing with performing groups, etc.)  She strives to give her students a positive, comprehensive experience, through lessons, workshops, independent practice, and  a variety of  performance opportunities.

As a composer, Christine  James' works have won several awards, have been featured in a German documentary film, and commissioned for Boulder’s Multiple Piano Festival. Her music was honored in Denver’s Colorado Composers program, and at the Federation of National Music Teachers’ presentation of American Woman Composers.  Among her favorite creations are the musical soundtrack for Experiencing the Passion, and her most recent duets for piano and alto flute.  Christine is a member of Rocky Mountain Composers. She has been a blogger for Music Teachers Helper, a website and resource for music teachers. She also publishes her music along with innovative teaching materials at CJJames Music Publishing. (More about jewelry and visual arts here.)

Christine holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and CU Music School in Boulder, Colorado. Her post graduate work in improvisation, composition and music theory was done at Colorado State University. Christine has taught music to students, young and old for over thirty years. Her expertise in the areas of traditional and contemporary piano, composition, song writing and vocal technique offers her students a well rounded musical experience.

Christine has been an active member of the Colorado Music Teachers Association and National Federation of Music Clubs, and served as President of the Boulder Area Music Teachers Association. She has adjudicated for the above organizations, as well as the American Piano Guild. As a bassoonist, she held Principal Chair in the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Fargo Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, and was founder/director of the Rocky Mountain Bassoon Choir.  Currently, she is also a vocal coach, bassist and keyboardist for Citipointe Church in Loveland, Colorado.
